McMaster tells raped women that they can close their eyes
Published March 29th, 2007 in Editorial.Abortion is no laughing matter, but Attorney General Henry McMaster had members of the audience laughing and shaking their heads when he said that you can’t force a woman to view an ultrasound - she can always close her eyes. According to Senator Short, she better cover her ears too.
So let’s get this right Mr. McMaster. A raped woman can’t be forced to look at it “if she closes her eyes?” We don’t think you have to tell a raped woman what she can and cannot be “forced” to do. Isn’t it something that she was forced to do that got her in this situation in the first place? Why didn’t you just follow Clayton Williams’ lead and say “as long as it’s inevitable, you might as well lie back and enjoy it.”
It’s not hard to figure out that we here at the Shot are pro-life and we are not advocating any exceptions here, but we believe in treating victims of violent sexual assault with as much sensitivity as possible.
That’s stupid. Why not just tell the pre-born Amercian citizen that he can just “close his eyes” during the abortion proceedure? Do we or do we not guarantee the rights of “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” to ourselves and our POSTERITY in this country?
Why read into McMaster’s statement something he did NOT say. According to your report, there was no mention of “rape” only “ultrasound”. Good God people, why editorialize when you don’t seem to be listening. Because I am pro-life, I’m pro-choice. That should get your jaws a-wagging! Folks, ever heard of integrity…responsible journalism…credibility? They’re in your nearest dictionary or on that magic computer in front of you. A Joyous Easter…Pinner
Mr Pinner - The questioning occurred during a debate about the rape and incest exceptions.

Mr. Pinner - after reading your comments, we got a little concerned that we missed something and indeed did go too far with our post. So we went back and watched the clip again and Kara Gormley clearly states:
“Linda Short then asked McMaster is he thought it was right to force a woman to view the ultrasound even if she was a victim of rape an incest.”
If you truly have a problem with this I suggest you go talk to Mrs. Gormley. I’m sure she won’t be very hard for you to find sir.
Did you watch the clip before you posted?
No, I did not watch the clip. I was “reading” your account of the proceedings and from “reading” your account I did not see any reference to “rape” only “ultrasound”. This, dear heart, is what I mean in including “the rest of the story” in your story. Not all have time for sound bites as the printed word should be enough. In this case, evidently you did not use enough words to present the “rest of the story”! I rest my case. Happy Easter…Joe
