Romney shocks Charleston
Published April 14th, 2007 in Uncategorized. In what many palmetto political insiders will find as a huge surprise, Mitt Romney won tonight’s Charleston County GOP straw poll by double digit margins.
Why the surprise? 2 reasons: First, outgoing Charleston County GOP Chairwoman Cyndi Mosteller is a huge McCain supporter and has been working her members for months for the McCain campaign. She gained national attention a few months back for accosting Romney for his faith during a SCGOP executive committee meeting. Second, the lowcountry has always been McCain’s South Carolina stronghold and is where he received the majority of his votes against Bush in 2000.
Here are the results:
Romney – 36%
McCain – 23%
Giuliani – 14%
Brownback – 9%
Hunter - 5%
Gingrich – 4%
Huckabee – 4%
F Thompson – 3%
Cox – 1%
Tancredo – 1%
T Thompson – 1%
Gilmore – 0%
240 votes were cast in tonight’s straw poll.

Wow. That has to sting for team McCain. They’ve been working pretty hard to keep their base from eroding. It looks like they haven’t been working hard enough.
Is McCain toast? Looks like it.
Viva la Romney
I went to a fundraising event for Romney in Nevada and had the opportunity to meet him. If you get the chance to meet him as well you’ll see why more and more people are jumping on the Romney team. He’s the real deal. Go Romney!
This was expected as Cindy Costa, our S.C. National Commiteewoman, is from Charleston and her team worked very hard from the precinct level on up. Lots of resources and hard work usually win straw polls. Congrats to Romney’s Charleston staff.

This “person” listed up at the top of this post wanted to add to the discussion, except for the fact that all he/she could manage was derogatory swearing. Guess the synapsis weren’t firing tonight.
Not our problem, and unlike our annonymous guest, our knuckles don’t drag on the ground.
Keep it clean people.
